2021-2022
This project is designed to provide you an opportunity to study a scientific topic of your choice. The project is to be completed individually; there will not be any group working on the same project. Listed below is an outline of the project and expectations for each section. Please review the paper. You and your parent(s) or guardian(s) are to sign the attached paper acknowledging that you understand this required assignment.
Do not make your topic too broad! You will end up with too much information to organize. For example, “Environmental Science” would be a topic that is too broad - it would be better to specify a topic within environmental science. The topic could involve the sport/hobby you enjoy or a career you are interested in.
**All reports will be submitted electronically through Google Classroom. Reports should be double spaced and in 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font. Margins should be 1” all the way around. There will be a rubric for each 9 weeks.

1st 9 Weeks: (100 points) Due by: October 15, 2021
- Choose a topic. Be sure it is something that interests you.
- Complete a 500-word abstract about the topic. An abstract is not the research portion of the paper. In fact - no research is needed in this section. An abstract is more like an introduction to what you want to research. You’ll find as you continue to research topics, a paper’s abstract will let you know if you want to actually read the research attached. The abstract is to address the following points:
- Identify your topic and explain why you chose it.
- What branch of Earth & Space Science is it most strongly connected with (geology, oceanography, meteorology, climatology, environmental science, astronomy, and technology)?
- What do you already know about the topic?
- What do you want to learn from this research?
- How do you plan to conduct the project (research or experiment)? Briefly describe your plan and/or the resources you plan to utilize.
